Accelerating Solar Water Pumping via Innovative Financing in Tanzania

Tanzania Solar Water

Achieving sustainable water service delivery in rural areas of Tanzania has been a challenge for decades. In 2013, a nationwide mapping exercise found that only 55 percent of Tanzania’s 74,250 water points were functional. To support sustainable access to water in selected rural communities of Tanzania by replacing existing inefficient diesel electric pumps with PVP systems, in September 2017, the World Bank approved a $4.5 million pilot project with the Tanzania Ministry of Water and Irrigation.
