In this webinar, World Bank Lead Irrigation Specialist Jake Burke will discuss results-based financing strategies for small-holder irrigation, and in particular, the role of output-based aid (OBA) subsidies in supporting investments by poor farmers in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. As GPOBA explores the use of OBA in less tested sectors, GPOBA is working with Bank teams to analyze the use of OBA in urban transport. In urban transport, there is a need to find a balance between cost recovery fares and socially inclusive solutions for the poor. There is an opportunity to advise cities to introduce pro-poor targeted subsidy schemes for urban transport or improve their subsidy programs. Shomik Mehndiratta, Lead transport specialist in the Latin American region, presented the work that the Bank and GPOBA have supported to advice cities in this regard.
