Innovations in Development Finance Webinar - Applications for Urban Transport

As GPOBA explores the use of OBA in less tested sectors, GPOBA is working with Bank teams to analyze the use of OBA in urban transport. In urban transport, there is a need to find a balance between cost recovery fares and socially inclusive solutions for the poor. There is an opportunity to advise cities to introduce pro-poor targeted subsidy schemes for urban transport or improve their subsidy programs. Shomik Mehndiratta, Lead transport specialist in the Latin American region, presented the work that the Bank and GPOBA have supported to advice cities in this regard. In addition, Shomik presented the global study that GPOBA will be supporting to explore the use of OBA in urban transport in other regions with more pressing needs such as in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
